The High Court dismissed the writ, seeking a direction to not shoot the agitating students during their programs.

In addition, instructions have been given to follow the PRB to suppress the movement. The High Court has directed the police and law enforcement agencies to act according to the Constitution. It has been said that the police must obey the law.

On Sunday (August 4), Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan's dual HC bench dismissed the writ. The HC also said that all citizens have the right to participate in a peaceful assembly.

Earlier, two Supreme Court lawyers, Manzoor Al Mateen and Ainunnahar Siddiqa, filed a writ petition on July 29 seeking a directive not to use live rounds (fresh bullets) directly on the students agitating for quota reform.

The Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Director General of Police, and Chief of the Army, Navy, and Air Force have been made defendants in the writ.

The hearing on the writ was held on July 29 and 30. On July 31, that bench of the High Court came up for order, but the dual bench did not sit on that day. Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan reportedly took leave on July 31 and August 1 due to illness.

In the petition, the relatives of the students who have been agitating around the quota movement, who have been detained or arrested recently, are also requested to be released. Among them, six coordinators arrested on August 1 were handed over to their families.
